Restructuring of our working Lives

A major interest of mine is the way that the world of work continues to change at a rapid pace, Demographic change means that people need to fund a longer retirement, so we are staying in work longer, backed up by government pension legislation here in the UK.

I have been greatly impressed by the argument that our greater longevity gives us, not just a longer working life, but also an opportunity to undertake a root and branch review of how we structure our lives. For example we could take our "Retirement" at points in our lives when we can maximise the benefits, rather than just at the end.

The idea is summarised beautifully in "The 100 year life" by Lynda Gratton and Andrew Scott. I have personally started structuring my working life around the ideas in the book.

WFH

I have been fascinated with almost the only positive by-product of Covid, the rapid acceptance by business and staff alike of the concept of  WFH (Working from Home). Technology has been a key enabler of the trend and, while the pace has slowed now that Covid appears to be diminishing in impact, working from home is here to stay. The fact that firms have experienced the benefits (Cost reductions etc) of having a reduced on-site presence, makes the overall trend irreversible.

My website wfhwork.com in which I have pulled together aspects and discussion points of the topic is linked via the image

Photography

I've taken photographs almost all of my life. Occasionally I have been commissioned to undertake work, photographing the odd famous face along the way. Nowadays I shoot pictures mainly for relaxation and to scratch the creative itch which occasionally surfaces.....

Anyway, I have pulled together more of my recent photographs onto a dedicated website which you can visit by clicking the image below
